About

Stephen Dinsmore is a Nebraska-born artist whose paintings display the importance of representational art in expressing a visual poetry. Attracting the attention of prestigious buyers, his work can be found in public and private collections both nationally and internationally.  Dinsmore’s paintings border on an abstract synthesis of sources to convey a  sense of place and time.

“When you get it right, a painting has something of the sublime. A vitality that is a marriage of color and light, mystery and joy, longing and beauty.” – Stephen Dinsmore

History and Inspiration:

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Stephen Dinsmore’s career began in the early 1980s. Appearing in 2-3 shows per year, his work has gathered acclaim and been acquired by notable names and locations, including the Mayo Clinic. Dinsmore paints from studios in Nebraska, Maine and Florida. He uses his surroundings as a constant fuel for inspiration. In 2021, Dinsmore launched a new site, welcoming commissions and doors to a broader range of collectors.

Artist Statement:

“For me, painting means being always on the lookout for an image that excites. The creamy light of late afternoon on the landscape; the abstract beauty of marks on the side of a train car; new snow that reshapes all it touches; an interior filled with color and reverie; the riveting beauty of a vase of flowers; a fly fisherman in shadow; a disregarded corner of town; a found image.

I try to make a painting that has in it at least something of the magic and mystery of the thing; the alchemy; the thing that excites.”
